How To Relax To Improve Your Health, Not Just Escape Reality
Relaxation should rejuvenate us. It is a chance we give our bodies and and minds to recuperate from the daily stress brought upon them by our challenging daily routines.
It easy to get caught up in – and dependant on – relaxation techniques that temporarily allow us to escape from the stresses of our lives but which involve habits that plunge us into poor health. In decreasing health we further reduce our ability to cope with the stresses we are trying to escape from in the first place. Then we sometimes end up on medications with side effects to deal with the symptoms of the illnesses we develop from our relaxation techniques.
Is your personal method of relaxation helping you in the long run, or is it slowly decreasing your quality of life?
Consider whether the things you do to relax actually interfere with your ability to sleep, or eat. Do you stay up later than you would normally as a result of your relaxation methods? Are you actually making yourself sick?
The stresses of life are hard enough to deal with. Do we really need poor health poured on top of it?
We do have choices.
There are things you can do to relax your mind that will benefit your health rather than slowly destroy it. Consider yoga and meditation as examples. Exercise is another. Or positive social interation.
In the video above I briefly describe a basic meditation technique that can be done in any chair and only takes ten minutes, but it can have a positive effect on your entire day.
